Frequently Asked Questions and Answers

Do I need any previous experience with baton twirling?

No, this is for beginners, and will then transition into more complicated twirling tricks as we progress.  The first class is also free to everyone to try it out and see if there is any interest.

What should my child wear to class?

Athletic gear such as leggings, standard sneakers, and not too loose of a shirt.  Anything comfortable while practicing, and of course school appropriate.  Once we start performing, shoes will be available to purchase, and some students find it beneficial to wear those shoes to their practice classes.

How do I order any items needed for my child?

I will be helping with ordering the initial baton and will continue to assist when it is time for outfits and shoes.  Cash and cards will be accepted.

How many classes a semester can we expect?

Anywhere from 14 – 16 classes per semester, as we will meet weekly, Fall and then Spring.  We might not be meeting for some weeks, yet a calendar will be posted on this website with those dates.

Can males baton twirl?

Yes, baton twirling is open to all genders, yet is commonly known as a “girl” sport.  As this is non-competitive, all genders welcome.

What age groups can join?

Age 7 or second grade and on.  Even through the 12th grade. I would love to support and mentor a college Twirler in the future. It is something most Twirlers dream of, twirling in college.

What type of performances will our group be doing?

Mostly parades, and of course events for the school.  Currently, I am working with people in charge of these events to be added as performers.  School gymnasiums are the best areas to perform, while street performances second, and football fields third.

Is there a summer program for my children?

Currently, we do not have a summer program in place.  Hopefully, by summer 2026 we could look at having a summer camp, either day or overnight, in this general Reno, NV & Tahoe area.

Why do you choose to not participate in competition?

This is performance for fun only. In the future, with 7th thru 12th graders, I might consider some healthy competition.  It’s just the most competitive baton twirling can be very cut throat, and it’s not the fun we are looking to have.

What expenses outside of tuition will we be looking at yearly or per semester?

Besides the tuition per semester per child, there is a $50 a year baton purchase needed, along with an outfit for performances, and new shoes/ nylons, if worn or outgrown.  I will provide a package to purchase with all performance items yearly.  We are trying to keep it in the $200-$300 range.

Some girls progress to two or three batons, therefore would need to purchase a set of 2 or 3 batons yearly. To explain further, girls outgrow their batons as their arms grow longer. If your child isn’t growing much anymore, being older, you will not have to replace their batons, unless the rod pushes through the white star edge component. This is from natural wear and tear due to lots of practice.

Are you looking for employees or fellow teachers?

As for now, I am a sole proprietor, and have not looked into hiring others for teaching or professional assistance.  In the future, opportunities may be open and available for hire.

As a parent, how can I participate?

When having parades or performances, parents’ assistance can be of great help.  Supervising a small group of girls waiting outside on the street for a parade to start would be amazing and is greatly encouraged.  No baton twirling experience needed.  There are many girls and only one of me, as for now, therefore parent volunteers are much appreciated.

What if my child hates it?

As baton twirling might not be for everyone, I will do partial refunds for a child who chooses to stop.  The baton purchase for $50 in the beginning is non refundable, along with any performance gear package that was purchased.  These items could be sold to fellow Twirlers if needed.  Please, I cannot stress enough, do not commit to a performance outfit and then drop out.

What payment plans can be worked out?

Each payment plan can be customized for each individual as needed.  Please don’t shy away from participating due to the expense. Some schools have fundraising, or other ideas on how to work out payments.

Can my child receive private lessons?

Surely, private lessons can be negotiated and timed accordingly for your child.  Pricing and scheduling can be customized for that child.  We might need to meet at a different location than the students’ current school.  Reach out if you need more personalized attention with private lessons.
